Biographical Information

Here is a little bit of background data: I was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1963 and was raised in Michigan, Ohio and Florida where I graduated from high school. I have also lived in Virginia, Delaware, Maryland & currently live in West Virginia. I attended the University of Florida in Gainesville and graduated in 1986 from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Historic Preservation. For most of my working career I have been involved in some aspect of the history field whether it be genealogy, local history, or architectural photography and documentation. I have been fascinated with these subjects for as long as I can remember and attribute much of this to being raised by immigrant parents from Germany and the Czech Republic. They instilled in me an awareness and appreciation of the past. As has been said many times by many people, 'in order to know where we are going, we must know where we have been'.

My experience has included serving as a project archivist and library processor at the Presbyterian Historical Society in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I also served for 10 years as the archivist and staff person for the Jewish Historical Society of Delaware in Wilmington, Delaware. I have written or compiled four books and am working on my fifth book, "Jewish West Virginia", which will be published by Arcadia Publishing in August 2010. My articles have appeared in a variety of newspapers and newsletters around the country. Over the years I have also created numerous historical displays and exhibits.
